5G spectrum auction support for a large operator in the Middle East

Project executed on behalf of Large Telecom Operator in the Middle East

Project Objective

The important growth of mobile services, especially data, is exerting strong pressure on mobile operators to enhance the capacity of their networks. Increasing the spectrum available for mobile services is one of the few options available to operators to address this constraint. Spectrum awards are therefore a critical process in the realization of operators’ market strategy, and the achievement of the necessary coverage and capacity capabilities of their mobile networks.

In this project, we supported a large operator in the Middle East during the spectrum auctions of 700MHz, 800MHz and 1800MHz bands.

Project Description

The project involved the execution of the following activities:

  • Development of a network model to evaluate the savings associated with the spectrum acquisition as a proxy for the expected economic value of the spectrum.

  • Design of the auction strategy and support in the execution of the auction.

Key Takeaways

As a result of the project, the client obtained the desired amount of spectrum. This has been critical in the successful execution of the management’s vision for the company as well as in ensuring market leadership, and a fast deployment of 5G networks and services.
