The Commission adopts Implementing Regulation to pave the way for high capacity 5G network infrastructure

The European Commission has adopted a regulation that defines the physical and technical characteristics of small cells, setting the limits in terms of size and power, and addressing their visual appearance. But what is most important is that such small cells should be, in general, exempted from any individual town planning permit or other individual prior permits.
This regulation will certainly pave the way for the spreading of small cells, especially in densely populated areas, which will contribute to a timely development of 5G networks across EU.
This regulation is fully aligned with the outcomes and recommendations of the “Study on Implications of 5G Deployment on Future Business Models” commissioned to Axon Partners Group and DotEcon by the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).
